Beaverbrook and Kanata's first homes
Beaverbrook is Kanata's oldest neighbourhood: its first street, Tiffany Crescent, went in in 1964, and residents have since sought heritage-district status for it. Houses that age often still have older windows, and that moves the priority toward keeping heat in.
- Cold glass. Cellular shades mounted close to the glass are the warmest blind you can fit; our winter guide ranks every option.
- Condensation. Older windows sweat on the coldest nights, and a tightly closed shade can make it worse. Leave a small gap at the bottom and keep the air moving.
- A failing window. Single-pane glass or a blown seal can't be fixed with a blind. The window replacement calculator shows what replacing it would cost first.
- Mid-century character. If you'd rather the house not read like a renovation from the street, Roman shades or lined curtains suit these rooms without fighting them.
Working from home near the tech park
Kanata North is the largest technology park of its kind in Canada. If your desk faces a window, the problem to solve is glare, not darkness — full blackout in a home office is a mistake people make once. Rebates on the Ontario side
Blinds don't qualify for any Ontario rebate. If an older Kanata home's windows do need replacing, the Home Renovation Savings Program pays $100 per rough opening — but only alongside a home energy assessment and at least two upgrades done as one project. Details in our Ontario rebates guide.
